Standard First Post/Introductions

Hello, if you’re reading this, this is the standard first post, akin to a “Hello World!” in programming. I was born in Manila, Philippines, and I live here still. As in the about page – I’m an amateur street photographer, but a terrible tourist as I always forget where I take my photos. I shoot with a Sony α7 II mirrorless camera, and only a Sony FE 35mm F2.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* (whew!) lens, because that is the only one I own. I’m thinking, after that statement most would ask, “why only that lens?”, and that is a valid question. I bought the camera body-only, and opted for a prime lens instead of the kit zoom lens, because I had money to spend then. I figured if I had a prime lens, I could learn more about photo composition, of which I may not have learned much. You be the judge. Also, I don’t have that much money now, so.

A few years ago I had a lot more material to post, unfortunately for me I had a problem with my Network Attached Storage (NAS), and most of my backup was gone. I only had a few living on my computer. The remaining photos were from a trip to Madrid, Spain, where I visited my mother in the winter of 2016. Those would have to suffice for now, until I get new material. So please watch out for the next post, where I’ll start to post some selected photos.

The Montserrat Abbey

/* In the previous post I mentioned, that we were getting tickets for Toledo at the station. The tickets were actually for Barcelona. I remember now that we went to Barcelona during my first weekend in Spain. */

When we got to Barcelona, it was around 3 in the afternoon and we immediately met with a guy who was recommended to us, who’ll take us in and around Barcelona. Montserrat is a mountain about an hour or two outside Barcelona, in the Catalonia region of Spain. The mountain houses the Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat. Here are some selected photos from my trip.

This cliff can be seen while walking towards the abbey. The clouds are hanging low. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 160

The sun has already set, I was trying to take a photo of the cliff from earlier. E 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 6400

I was trying to take a photo of the lights below, unfortunately no zoom on this lens. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 5000

Touring Around Puerta Del Sol

I think it was my second or third day in Madrid that I started to walk around the city. I had to google where Madrid’s kilometer zero was to find out where most of the pictures were taken. Photos displayed are in medium size from flickr.

This was from early in the morning, the view from my mother’s office in Madrid. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/125 | ISO 100

Tortugas from the train station, we were booking a trip to Toledo. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 1600

Tortugas, again from the train station. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 1000

A couple near kilometer zero in Puerta Del Sol. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 400

This building is behind kilometer zero (I think). FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 400

Madrid has an excellent transport system, it’s easy to get around. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 250

A fellow tourist like me, near kilometer zero. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 1000

Tapas, wine, and cheese, walking from Puerta Del Sol. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 1000

This was a club (I think), that allowed minors to party until 9PM. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 640

Walking around Puerta Del Sol. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 1000

The statue across the Palacio Real. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 1000

This was from somewhere near the Palacio Real. Photo maybe underexposed? FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 640

We were walking around the Palacio Real area. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 4000

Street lamp, from somewhere near the Palacio Real. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/60 | ISO 2500

Street sign, near Mercado de San Miguel. FE 35mm F2.8 ZA | ƒ/8.0 | 1/50 | ISO 6400

I only now realize that I was at ƒ/8.0 all the time. I’m sure that’s an amateur mistake, I’ve also just started to fiddle around with my camera. Also, it’s a PITA to share photos through flickr; the normal embed link doesn’t work for me and I had to edit it to start at the image source part. Same for copying and formatting Exif data.

That’s it, post some comments if you want.
